THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, October 16, 2009.

Helen Lucille Peterson, 86, former longtime resident of Ames, passed away in her sleep Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, at her home in Walkerville, Mich. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Inurnment will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Helen was born May 18, 1923, in Boone, the daughter of Oscar and Ella Wheeler Peterson.

Before moving to Michigan to be near her daughter, Julie and family, she lived in Sedalia, Mo., from 1994 to 1998. She attended the Gilbert school system and lived in Ames until 1994.

A fulltime homemaker and talented designer, she struggled in later life with epilepsy before succumbing to cancer.

She is survived by two daughters, Julie (Jim) Speer, of Walkerville, Mich., and Susan Anderson, of Spencer; one son, Larry (Kathy) Peterson, of Pella; one sister, Lois Pike, of Prescott, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and Mike, her long hair Chihuahua.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick in 1978; one son, Jerry, in 1979; one son-in-law, Mark Anderson, in 2009; one brother, Eugene; and three sisters, Hazel, Ella Maxine and Betty.
