THE NEVADA JOURNAL, Nevada, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, September 17, 2009.

Dean S. Howell, 86, of Davenport, IA, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf on their 65th wedding anniversary. Memorial services in Celebration of his Life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, September 18th, at First United Methodist Church, Nevada, Iowa. Inurnment will be in Lincoln Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Nevada. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dean was born in 1923 in Maxwell, IA the only son of Ray and Beulah Howell. He graduated from Iowa State University in the Agricultural Program and was employed by the University for many years. Dean’s passion for the automobile, especially Fords, spurred him to purchase a dealership in Lake City, Iowa which he owned and managed for several years before selling the business and returning to Nevada where he was employed and eventually retired from Land O’Lakes.

Dean was a 50 year member of Nevada Masonic Lodge # 99 as well as a 50 year member of the Nevada Lions Club where he was awarded the Warren Coleman Award. He was a great support to his community and friends. He loved golf, fishing and woodworking as well as caning and playing cards. He was a good dancer too! Dean will certainly be missed by all his family and friends in the Nevada and Ankeny area as well as his new acquaintances from the Quad Cities.

Dean is survived by his wife, Maxine; his daughter and son in law, Nancy and Jim Fisher of Pleasant Valley, Iowa; a son and daughter in law, Raymond and Susan Howell of Hernando, Mississippi; grandchildren, Karen and Thomas Pierce of Hernando, Mississippi, Susannah and Troy Thibodeaux of Hernando, Mississippi and Ben and Erica Fisher of St Louis, Missouri; and a great granddaughter, Emma Thibodeaux.
