THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, August 29, 2009.

Jimmie Paul Herrington died Friday, Aug. 28, at Bethany Manor, Story City.

Jimmie was born Dec. 30, 1920, in Laurel, Miss. His parents were O. D. and Mary Lou (Sanford) Herrington. He was the oldest of 10 children.

He joined the U.S. Marine Corps on May 2, 1942. He served in the South Pacific, Solomon Islands during World War II. He was discharged on May 1, 1946 as a tech sergeant.

He met Marian Brinkmeyer; they were married in Hubbard, IA at Zion Church on May 24, 1946.

He opened his own garage in 1962, later studied electronics and started an RCA TV business. He retired in 1993.

He is survived by his wife, Marian, of Story City; their children and their families, Connie and Ron Bailey, of Rowan, Iowa, Barbara and Bob Martin, of Pleasant Prairie, Wis., Jim Jr., of Newton, Richard and Elizabeth of Gilbert, and Ellen and Terry Reints, of Ames.

They have 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandsons; sisters Mary Coley, Rose Bartula, Winnie Crise and sister-in-law Ernestine Herrington of Kenner, La.; brothers Ben Ray and Tom.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 31, 2009, at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Radcliffe.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, at Boeke Funeral Home, Radcliffe.
