OBITUARY
Allen Jeffries, a veteran of 30th Indiana Volunteers Infantry and an old settler near Ira, at which place he settled on a farm in 1869, died Nov. 17, 1913 at the home of his son Curtis at Ira, his age being 71 years 9 months and 17 days.
He was a native of Henry County, Ind. Served in the civil war three years. Was a member of E.H. Keys Post G.A.R. No. 511.
He was married Nov. 1868, to Rebecca Elliott. To the union five children were born. Curtis of Ira and Francis H. of Ely, Nevada, survive. Mrs. Jeffries died in July 1896.
The funeral was at the Union Chapel Tuesday, Rev. Griggsbe preaching the sermon. E.H. Keys Post conducted the exercises at the grave.
Interment was at the cemetery by the church. There was a large attendance of friends and neighbors to pay their homage to the merits of deceased as a soldier, settler and citizen.
