John Patrick Nolan of Madera, California, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at the age of 71. He was born April 21, 1938 and raised on a farm in Story County, Iowa. He spent his childhood fishing in the river, hunting squirrels and trapping muskrats. He graduated from Story City High School and served in the U.S. Navy as a photographer aboard the aircraft carrier Saratoga in the Mediterranean with friends Pete Donhowe and Verdon Farmer. John attended Iowa State University and the University of Iowa, but in the end he was a self made entrepreneur.
John worked summers painting farm buildings and grain elevators; his business evolved into Central Coating Company which he moved to Madera in 1970. Now Central Coating Company is one of the leading sprayed polyurethane foam roofing companies in the United States. He was past president of the trade association, Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance and was respected as a leader and innovator in his industry. John was beloved by his employees and business colleagues.
