THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, July 21, 2009.

Carl Junior Hill, 89, of rural Maxwell, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at Story County Care Center in Nevada. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth St., in Nevada, with Pastor Tom Lee officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Iowa Center.

Carl was born Sept. 4, 1919, in Earl, Mo., to Carl H. and Elizabeth (Minker) Hill. He attended grade school in Iowa Center and high school in Maxwell. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and was stationed in Hawaii. After his discharge, he married Frances Settle, of Colo, and he started farming. They were married April 6, 1946, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

He is survived by two sisters, Darlene Marshall, of Maxwell, and Betty Jean Elliott, of Big Rock, Ill.; two nephews, Carl, of Maxwell, and Wesley, of Nebraska; two nieces, Sandra Kiefer, of Illinois, and Vicki Mundells, of California; and one brother-in-law, Richard (Cindy) Settle, of Nevada, and his four children, Mark, Craig, Steve and Tracy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances, on April 21, 1998; one sister-in-law, Anna May Allan and her husband, Wendall; and two brothers-in-law, Don Elliott and Welby Marshall.

A memorial fund has been established in Junior’s name for Maxwell First Responders.

Chet Ryan Mortuary has been entrusted with Junior and his family.
