THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, June 30, 2009.
Mary Elizabeth Pickett died Wednesday, June 24, 2009. No services are planned at this time.
She was born July 4, 1922, in Memphis, Tenn. Mary had been a resident of Ames for over 50 years. A graduate of the University of Tennessee, she received her master’s degree from the University of Illinois and her doctorate from Iowa State. She was a professor in The School of Home Economics and Architecture at Iowa State for many years. Very proud of her profession and work, she was regularly looked up by previous students to tell her of their successes.
She is survived by sisters, Frances K. Smith, of Memphis, Tenn., and Dorothy (Cary) Mangum, of Fair Oaks, Calif.; and brothers, Merritt G. (Barbara) Smith, of Memphis, and Dr. Robert J. (Bettye) Smith, of Lake Mary, Fla. She also leaves numbers of close friends and neighbors who so kindly ministered to her and helped in so many ways in her last years. The family wishes to thank all of those who gave of their time and love to do so.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Pickett.
Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family.
