THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, June 30, 2009.
Jerry Dale “Jake” Shattuck, 58, of Zearing, died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 2, at Dakins Community Center in Zearing. Burial will be in Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing.
Jake was born Dec. 1, 1950, in Eldora, to Richard “Dick” and Mary “Pauline” Reynolds Shattuck. He graduated from NESCO High School in 1969. He joined the U.S. Navy on April 28, 1970, and was discharged April 26, 1974.
He worked for area farmers and drove a fuel truck for several years. He co-owned a custom farming service. For the last 27 years, he was employed as a maintenance worker at the National Animal Disease Center in Ames.
On July 31, 1982, he married Norma Weig at Zearing Christian Church.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his early years. He really enjoyed golfing with family and friends and served on the Hubbard Golf and Recreation Board. He was very proud to be a Minnesota Vikings fan.
Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife, Norma, of Zearing; two daughters, Jessie (Derek) Gjerde, of McCallsburg, and Jakkie Shattuck, of Zearing; one son, Jammie (Nicki) Dubberke, of Ames; one grandson, Landon Gjerde, of McCallsburg; one granddaughter, Breehan Dubberke, of McCallsburg; three sisters, Pam (Bruce) Dietl, of Phoenix, Penny Cummings and friend, Bob Welch, of Colo, and Judy (Jim ) Manning, of Birchwood, Wis.; one aunt, Shirley Westberg, of Marshalltown; along with many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Pauline Shattuck.
Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing is in charge of arrangements.
