THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, June 10, 2009.

Ansel Glen Swenson, 95, of Story City died Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Hubbard Care Center. Funeral services were held Friday, June 5th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial followed the service at the Story City Municipal Cemetery. A visitation of family and friends was held Thursday, June 4th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.

Ansel Glen Swenson was born May 2, 1914 to Annes and Gena Caroline (Anderson) Swenson in Stanhope, Iowa. He married Orlene G. Borwick February 24, 1940 in Austin, Minnesota. Ansel served in the United States Army during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart. He worked for the Roland-Story Community School district for almost 20 years in grounds and maintenance. Ansel was a member of the American Legion for 64 years and was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church.

Ansel is survived by his son Bruce and his wife Suzanne Swenson of York, Pennsylvania; his daughter Lana and her husband Douglas
Olson of Williamsburg, Virginia; grandchildren Scott (Michelle) Swenson, Jeffrey (Shannon) Swenson, Shelley A. Olson, Brenda (Robert) Meskunas; great-grandchildren Emily Swenson, Kelly Swenson, Zachary Meskunas, Ryan Meskunas, and Kylie Meskunas; stepsons Douglas (Amanda) Lane, and Russell Lane; and step-great-grandchild Ian Lane.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Orlene; two brothers, Lloyd Swenson and Arnold Swenson; one sister Myrtle Harmon; and a daughter-in-law Lola M. Swenson.
