THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, June 12, 2009.
Ruth Eileen Day, 90, of rural Nevada, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 15, at First United Methodist Church in Nevada with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Nevada.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 14, with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m., at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth St., in Nevada.
Ruth was born Dec. 27, 1918, at home in rural Colo, to Raymond O. and Blanche Mary (Sarsfield) Boyd. She graduated with honors from Maxwell High School in 1936. Following graduation, she worked for the local telephone company in Nevada. On Feb. 19, 1939, she married Raymond James Day at the Methodist Church in Nevada. She was a homemaker, part time cook at Story County Hospital for 18 years and a caregiver for several people in Nevada. She was a member of the Ladies Aid Society, First United Methodist Church and also served as secretary for the Bithiah Circle. She enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher and mentor for the confirmation class. She also enjoyed making quilts for missionary work with the Shipley group, traveling, playing cards and dominos, and being with family and friends.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and John Peters, of Lewis and Iowa City; two sons, Dr. David Day, of Kauai, Hawaii, and Ronald Day, of Nevada; two grandchildren, Sabina Peters, of Iowa City, and Ryan Day, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; one sister, Doris Henryson, of Palm Desert, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond Day on Aug. 7, 1993; and one sister, D. Jean Henderson on Jan. 14, 2001.
A memorial fund has been established in Ruth’s name.
