Hazel Lurene Pauley
May 3, 1911, to Nov. 24, 2002Hazel Lurene Pauley, 91, of Colo, died of pneumonia on Sunday, Nov. 24, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
She was born May 3, 1911, in Putman County, Mo., to Herman and Kittie (Daugherty) Corbin. She married Victor E. Pauley on Sept. 3, 1927, in Newtown, Mo. She was a homemaker and a cook at Milford School. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and being with family. She was a longtime resident of Story County.
Survivors include six daughters, Virginia Patterson of Nevada, Violet Corbin of Fernald, Iva Oxley, Shirley Ishael and Doris Otto, all of Colo, and Geri Biederman of West Des Moines; a son, Ron Pauley of LaGrange, Ga.; three sisters, Doris Whipple of Hampton, Amber Drahos of Nevada, and Mavis Dull of Kansas City, Mo.; three brothers, Ralph Corbin of Fernald, Junior Corbin of Newtown, Mo., and Trulin Corbin of Mesa, Ariz.; 26 grandchildren; 79 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Victor on Jan. 1, 1978; an infant son, Samuel; three grandchildren and four sisters, Lena, Lucy, Rose and Twyla.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Colo with Pastor Lee Williamson officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memory Gardens in Nevada. A memorial fund has been established. Chet Ryan Mortuary handled arrangements.
