Walter George Whitehead Feb. 28, 1923 - March 6, 2000

Walter George Whitehead, 77, of Nevada, died Monday of cancer at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services are at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church - Disciples of Christ in Nevada, with the Rev. Fred C. Danforth officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memory Gardens.

Walter George Whitehead was born Feb. 28, 1923, in Marshall County to Wilbur and Christine (Allpach) Whitehead. He was a 1941 graduate of Mingo High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Marjorie Mitchell on Aug. 14, 1950, in Nashua. He was employed as a finish carpenter for Hunziker and Furman. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Nevada.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Joel Whitehead of Maxwell and Lowell (Ernie) Whitehead of Nevada; two daughters, Carol Thompson and Sheila Erickson, both of McCallsburg; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson and two sisters, Irene Robinson of Houston and Shirley Foley of Katy, Texas.

Visitation is after 3 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

A memorial fund has been established.

Chet Ryan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
