William D. Taylor, of Ames, has died. Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

William “Bill” Taylor, DVM, 73, of Ames, died peacefully at home Tuesday, May 26, 2009. A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Bill Taylor was born June 21, 1935, in Woodford, Okla., to John P. and Magalee Taylor. Bill graduated with a degree in veterinary medicine from Oklahoma A&M. He spent his entire professional career with the USDA. He retired in 2004 after 43 years of service, most recently at USDA-NVSL where he was an animal pathologist.

Bill was a fan of auto racing and enjoyed reading about sports cars. As a young man he did freelance photography of rodeos and bull riding. Bill loved listening to music and dancing, and frequently attended live shows at People’s, Papa’s Corner, and a number of venues in Des Moines and Iowa City.

He is survived by a son, Brian (Silke) Taylor, of Urbana, Ill.; and a cousin, Haywood (Pamela) Norton, of Carmel Valley, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; former wife, Dolores Keith; and son, John.
