ROGER R. GRIFFITH
Roger R. Griffith, 69, died on Friday, Feb. 2, 1979 at the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames after a lingering illness. Roger was born on Sept. 13, 1909 at Brandon, Iowa and in 1910 his family moved to Story County where he lived all his life.
He was a mechanic by trade and for many years operated a garage at Fernald which was a meeting place for all his many friends. He was married to Marjorie Sager and their seven children Marilyn Vasquez, Steven, Roger Jr., Dean, Mary Sue Griffith, Patricia Howard and Roberta Egeland made their family circle complete.
Roger was an inspiration to all his family and friends and he had a very sincere and deep love for all those that were close to him. Recently when a niece visited him in the hospital she was telling him that he was a very fortunate person to have so many people that loved him and he replied "Sweetheart if love could cure, I would be healed."
He is survived by his wife Marjorie, the seven children, 17 grandchildren, one great granddaughter and one brother Gordon Griffith of St. Louis, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and one granddaughter.
Roger was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church where the services were held on Manday, Feb. 5, 1979. Pastor John Chadwick delivered the services, not only as his pastor but as Roger's friend.
The casket bearers were Jerry Hohn, Steve Hohn, Tom Landis, Galen Lough, Brian Opstvedt and Weldon McKim. Burial was at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Amanda Bradleys words of consolation are so very fitting:
After the rain comes the rainbow,
After the storm the sun,
And daylight breaks across the sky
After the night is done -
Life brings the sweet with the bitter,
laughter will follow tears,
Just as after the snows of winter,
the glory of springtime appears.---from the Nevada Evening Journal
