AMES MAN KILLED IN ONE-CAR CRASH

KIenneth Alcott, 49, 117 South Borne Ave., was killed instantly about 8:55 p.m. Saturday when the car he was driving failed to make a curve on Dayton Park Road northeast of Ames and crashed into a ditch on the north side of the road.

The Ames man was thrown from his car and crushed underneath it.

Alone In Car

Officials theorized he hit a gravel shoulder just off the pavement and skidded out of control. He was alone in the car.

The mishap occurred four miles north and one mile east of Ames, near the Hickory Grove Trailer Park. The man was going north on Dayton Park Road turning east when the car went out of control.

Relatives today think the man might have been going to check on a job out of town. A construction worker, he had been laid off work here recently and was unemployed.

Here 14 years

He had been an Ames resident for about 14 years.

Born in Madison County near St. Charles, he was married to Sue Mastellar in 1938 in Nevada. She preceded him in death in 1957.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Donna Mae Young, Minneapolis, Minn. and Mavis Alcott, Toledo; two grand children; four brothers, Ray of Ventura, Calif.; Herbert of Villard, Minn.; Gail of Alexandria, Minn. and Ellis of Stewartsville, Minn.; four sisters, Mrs. Lilly Overton of Des Moines, Mrs. Nellie Deanton, Route 2, Mrs. Flossie Buckholtz of Artesia, Calif. and Mrs. Eva Ross, Sheldon, Wis. and two nephews, Carroll and Forest of Route 2, Ames.
