VALIER, ILLINOIS
Janita Ann Behm, 71, of Valier, passed away quietly at home at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004.
Juanita was born July 7, 1933, in Ames, Iowa, to Raymond and Gladys (Zook) Warren. She was a school teacher before her marriage to John Behm May 24, 1953, in Nevada, Iowa.
Juanita and John farmed in Wisconsin for many years and moved to Southern Illinois in 1973. They owned and operated the Zeigler A & W and sold it in the late 1970s. Juanita worked as a cook and waitress for many years in Zeigler, Christopher and Sesser. They retired to their family farm south of Valier. She was very active with the Homemakers Extension and Eastern Star for 50 years. She was a member of the Valier United Methodist Church and also attended the First Baptist Church ladies' group.
Juanita leaves behind her husband of 51 years; four sons and a daughter, Douglas Behm of Christopher, Rodney and Gail Behm of Coello, Stanley and Lisa Behm of Hopkinsville, KY, and Wayne and Michele Behm of Mulkeytown; Wanda and Walter Underwood of Christopher; 11 grandchildren, Drew and Kristi Barka, Joseph and Johhn Dollins, Scotty, Warren, Miranda, Dillon and Nicholas Behm also Jacob and Joshua Underwood; two great gradchildren, Ashley and Justin Barka; a brother and sister-in-law Richard and Shirley Warren of Ames, Iowa; a sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Curtis Paulsen of Rensselaer, Ind., along with hundreds of friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her eldest daughter, Peggy Dollins who also lost her fight with cancer three years ago.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at the funeral home with the Rev. Harold Quick of the Sesser-Valier United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Zeigler Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Vantrease Funeral Home in Zeigler.
