John A. Smith Dies at Home Of His Sister
John A. Smith, 74 years old, died at 1:30 p. m., Monday at the home of his sister, Mrs. Lillian Lawson, 304 East Lincoln way, where he had made his home for the past eight years. Death was due to a stroke.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the United Brethren church, with the Rev. E. L. Shaffer, pastor of the church, in charge. Burial will be in the Ames cemetery.
Mr. Smith had been in ill health since last February when he had suffered another stroke which left him partially paralyzed.
Born Jan. 20, 1862 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Mr. Smith came to the United States when he was about 15. Since then he had lived the greater share of his life in Nebraska and the western states unti1 1928, when he came to Ames to made his home with his sister.
He is suivived by two sisters. Mrs. Lawson and Mrs. G. M. Simpson of Twin Falls, Idaho, two brothers Frank Smith of Raton, N. M.. and W. J. Smith of Emporia, Kan., and 27 nieces and nephews.
