Ruth Darlene Moeller, age 89, of Boone, and a resident of the Eastern Star Masonic Home, entered her heavenly home on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008.

Ruth Darlene was born on October 19, 1919, in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Adam Peter and Magdalena Susanna Maria (Grabau) Moeller. She attended St. Paul's Lutheran Parochial School and one year at the high school in Boone, and then graduated from Story City High School in 1936. Ruth attended the Iowa Teachers' College at Cedar Falls and the University of Iowa, receiving her BA degree in education. She also received a BA degree in Library Science from the University of Minnesota. Ruth taught high school English in Brooklyn, Iowa and Battle Creek, Michigan. In the early 1950s, she moved to Lakewood, California, where she worked as a librarian for 42 years. At the time of retirement, she served as head librarian at Poly Technical High School in Long Beach.

While a resident of Lakewood, California, Ruth was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and served as a volunteer librarian for Bethany Lutheran School. She did voluntary work at the United Nations Gift Shop for UNICEF, Meals on Wheels, Lutheran Social Services, the Children's Hospital, Philanthropic Educational Organization, and did numerous fund raisers, drives, and campaigns. She enjoyed visiting with friends and family, writing letters, reading, sewing, gardening, and traveling.

After moving back to Boone in 1996, Ruth returned to her childhood church, St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran, in rural Boone County. She was an active member of St. Paul's Ladies Aid and Lydia Circle.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Clarence Moeller, and her sister-in-law, Lois (Aspengren) Moeller.

Ruth is survived by one nephew and two nieces, Stephen Moeller (Sandra) of St. Paul, Minnesota; Susan Ullestad (Rodney) of Boone; Laurie Peterson (Brian) of Story City; four great-nieces and two great-nephews, Rebecca Ruth Moeller of Waukesha, Wisconsin; Michael Moeller of St. Paul, Minnesota; Rachel and Luke Ullestad of Boone, Iowa; Allison and Mallory Peterson of Story City, Iowa; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am., Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 295 Spruce Lane, Boone, Iowa. Pastor Michael Standfest will officiate. Burial will be at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.

Visitation was held at the Walter – Schroeder Funeral Home at Fifth & Story Streets in Boone on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Family was present at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. to the time of the service.

Suggested memorials are the LCMS Joint Seminary Fund and St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Walter – Schroeder Funeral Home at Fifth & Story Streets in Boone is in charge of the arrangements.
