Former County Officer Dies Early Tuesday

NEVADA—Funeral services for Ellsworth Gibson, 73, who died at the Iowa sanitarium in Nevada early Tuesday morning, will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist Episcopal church at Maxwell. Burial will be in the family lot at Peoria, southeast of Maxwell.

Mr. Gibson, long time resident of Maxwell and other communities in Story county and former member of the Story county board ot supervisors, had been in failing health for some time. In spite of this fact he announced his candidacy for the republican nomination for supervisor at the June 1936 primaries, but he was taken ill before the close of the campaign and went to the sanitarium during June.

Mr. Gibson served as county supervisor for about seven years. He was first appointed to serve out the unexpired term of O. B. Olson from Feb. 1, 1923 to Jan. 1, 1924. As he had been elected at the previous election he took office Jan. 1, 1924 and served two full terms, until Jan. 1, 1930. During his terms of office many of the important improvements in Story county were accomplished.

Surviving Mr. Gibson are his widow, Mrs. Lola Smith Gibson, a brother, Samuel Gibson of Marion, and a sister, Mrs. Leawreatha Young of Maxwell.
