Lester James Brooks Jan. 8, 1914 to Jan. 2, 2000
Lester James Brooks, 85, of Nevada, died of pneumonia on Sunday, Jan. 2, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
He was born Jan. 8, 1914, in rural Nevada to David and Jennie (Burnett) Brooks. He attended school at Fernald Consolidated and graduated from Milford Township Consolidated School in 1932. He helped his father farm. On March 2, 1941, he married Margaret Baker in Nevada. They farmed in Milford Township until he retired in December of 1978 when they moved into Nevada. He was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church and a lifelong resident of Nevada.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Nevada; a son Gary Lee (and Janet) of Lake Wylie, S.C. ; two grandsons; a brother, Virgil Brooks of Nevada; three sisters, Genevieve Myrland of Austin, Minn., Virginia Jacobson of Nevada and Isabelle Hillis of Story City; and 25 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Mervin and LaVern Brooks.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Central Presbyterian Church in Nevada with Pastor Larry Mitchell officiating. Burial was in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, handled arrangements.
