THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, April 21, 2009.

Veda R. Sutter chose Monday, April 20, 2009, as the day she would finally join her beloved husband, Rodney, in heaven’s ballroom. She spent her final days much as she’d spent her life, surrounded by her grateful family. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 23, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Slater, with burial following the services. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Veda Rebecca Ersland was born July 18, 1922, in Ames, to Jacob C. and Millie Ersland. She was a graduate of Slater High School as well as AIB Business College in Des Moines. She married Rodney B. Sutter Dec. 12, 1943, and the loving couple had three children together.

She worked as a legal and administrative secretary for many years until she retired. A devoted mother, grandmother and friend, she was generous with her wisdom and wit and enjoyed playing the piano, trying new recipes, golfing and having the very best tan each summer. She also loved going to Guttenberg every year to boat on the Mississippi with family and friends. In 1994, she moved to Lenexa, Kan., to reside with her daughter, and in 2000, she moved to Delmar Gardens, also of Lenexa, where she eventually passed away.

She is survived by one daughter, Roxann Kellogg and Roxann’s husband, Reno, of Lenexa, Kan.; one son, Rick Sutter and Carolynn Anderson, of Wall, S.D.; along with grandchildren, Marc Tweed and wife, Megan, Jennifer Beardslee and husband, Steve, Stephenie Gay and husband, Andy, and Jill and Tara Sutter and their fiancés, Jason Leonard and Ty Norman. She also is survived by her beloved great-grandchildren, Riley and Ryan Gay, Henry Tweed, and Sam and Charlie Beardslee, who soon will be joined by a baby sister.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and two brothers. She lost her husband, Rodney, in 1981 and her son, Sam Sutter, six months later.

The family would appreciate contributions in her name to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.

While we are so sad to lose Veda, we are glad that, at long last, she and Dad are able to dance again.

Soderstrum Riis Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
