THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, April 9, 2009.

Kathleen “Kay” Riley, 80, of Ames, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Mary Greeley Medical Center after suffering a severe stroke. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 10, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Kathleen Riley was born Aug. 3, 1928, in Austin, Minn., to Everett and Winnifred (Rowland) DeMoss Sr. She graduated from Bondurant High School in 1946. She married Arthur Riley on June 21, 1947. They were married for 61 years.

She graduated in 1968 from Mary Greeley Hospital as a licensed practical nurse and retired from Mary Greeley Medical Center in 1990, after a career of 22 years. She and Art were foster parents to teenagers through Youth and Shelter Services for nine years.

She was an active member of Bethesda Lutheran Church. She was a Sunday School teacher for the 2-year-olds’ room, sang in the choir, served on the fellowship board and was best remembered as a great cook for the Wednesday fellowship meals. She was the recording secretary for the executive board of Women Aglow. She was a godly woman whose love for the Lord was great and guided her through out her life. She raised her family by these principles. Her door and her heart were always open.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur Riley, of Ames; three sons, David (Karen) Riley, of Sioux City, and their children, Kami (Lon) Claeys, Jedidiah Riley and Gabriel (Danielle) Riley, Phillip Riley (wife, Gail Williamson), of Monrovia, Calif., and Joseph Riley, of Ames, and his children, Angie (Mark) Hidlebaugh and Jim Riley; two daughters, Mary (Joel) Glenn, of Huxley, and their children, Rachel and Brian, and Mitzi (Rick) Reisinger, of Ames, and their children, Tyler and Rebecca Lewis; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Everett DeMoss Jr., of Ames, and Dale DeMoss, of Elgin, Ill.; two sisters, Janice DeMoss, of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Patty DeMoss, of Exeter, Neb.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials may be directed to her family.
