THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, April 9, 2009.

Shirley Overturf, 84, of Ames, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at Adams Funeral Home. Burial will be in Gilbert Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, April 10, at Adams Funeral Home.

Shirley was born June 22, 1924, in Hardin County, to Clara (Klatt) and August Frerichs. She graduated from Steamboat Rock High School in 1942. In 1947, she obtained her R.N. from Evangelical Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown.

On Jan. 1, 1949, she married Calder Ray (Bud) Overturf Jr. She was a resident of Gilbert from 1963 to 1996, when she moved to Ames.

She loved her family, shoes, cats and sports, especially the Twins, Cubs and the Hawkeyes. She was a wonderful mother and friend and will be missed by all.

She is survived by three daughters, Diana Heisner, of Des Moines, Kerin (Dean Halverson) Overturf, of Ames, and Lisa (Tim) Sheirbon, of Ogden; one brother, Melvin Frerichs, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; one grandson, Brent (Coralie) Heisner, of Des Moines; two granddaughters, Rachel and Jenna Sheirbon, of Ogden; one great-grandson, Nicholas Heisner; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993; one son, William in 1990; one brother, Hilton (Bud) Frerichs; and one son-in-law, John Heisner.

Memorials may be directed to the Gilbert Historical Society or the Gilbert Iowa Fireman’s Association Building Fund.
