Irene Earnest, 87, a longtime Ames resident, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family with arrangements.

Irene Ellen Earnest, 87, a longtime Ames resident, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Visitation with the family will be from 4 to 7 p.m., with a 5 p.m. scripture service, Friday, April 10, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, in Ames. Funeral service will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Ames. Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery.

Irene was born May 6, 1921, in Denison, the daughter of William and Minnie (Na Manney) De Mey. She attended school in Denison. She married Victor Baldus Feb. 2, 1942, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1949. She later married Edgar Earnest on July 6, 1957, and he preceded her in death on April 15, 1971. She worked at B and D Café and different restaurants as a waitress before retiring in 1981.

She was a member of the church, Catholic Daughters, Altar and Rosary Society and Women of the Moose. She was a very hard worker, a great cook and enjoyed cooking for her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was quick to play Canasta, dominoes, and take time to watch a train.

She is survived by three daughters, Rosalie (Dave) Kelso, of Apache Junction, Ariz., Mary Ann Baldus, of Ames, and Judy (Steve) Eaton, of Clive; seven grandchildren, Michelle (Alex) Kelso, Julie (Corky) Boeding, Amy (Jeff) Dick, Jim (Kristin) Eaton, Robin Eaton, Sara Eaton and Becky Eaton; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; three brothers; one sister; and one grandson, Jack Eaton.

Memorials may be directed to Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Grandon Funeral and Cremation care is assisting the family.
