THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, April 8, 2009.

Hazel K. Taylor, 87, of Schulenburg, Texas, went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 26, 2009. A graveside ceremony will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 11, in Ames Cemetery. Refreshments will follow at Calvary Methodist Church, 1403 24th St., in Ames.

Hazel was born Jan. 13, 1922, in Harlan, to Jens and Katheryn Jensen. She was baptized Feb. 26, 1933. She fell in love and married Kenneth E. Taylor on March 13, 1939, in Nevada, and they had three sons, Kenneth, Richard and James.

She graduated from beauty school in 1955 and started her own beauty shop in their home in Ames until 1984. She then retired and moved to Denver, Colo., and lived with her youngest son, James. In 2004, she moved to Schulenburg, Texas, where she lived the remaining of her years at the Schulenburg Regency Villas Center. She loved life and enjoyed watching sports, fishing, traveling and the slot machines. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was loved and will be missed.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth and his wife, Janet, of Flatonia, Texas, and Richard and his wife, Joan, of Rolling Hills, Wyo.; one grandson, Steve and his wife, Laura; two granddaughters, Pam and Rhonda; and three great-grandchildren, Christina, Kendall and Kelsey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; youngest son, James; her parents, Jens and Katheryn; three brothers, Thomas, Earl, Marvin; and three sisters, Lillian, Edna and Arlene.

Memorial gifts maybe given in Hazel’s honor to Calvary Methodist Church, 1403 24th St., Ames, IA, 50010, or the Diabetes Association.
