THE AME TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, March 3, 2009.

Donald O. Drennan, 85, of Corning, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic. Celebration of life services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, at United Presbyterian Church in Corning, with the Rev. Jim Wakelin officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery near Corning in rural Adams County.

Visitation was Monday, March 2, at Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service in Corning.

Donald O. Drennan was born June 29, 1923, in Lincoln Township, Adams County, to Bernice (Arthur) Drennan and C. Orlo Drennan. He graduated from Corning High School and served in the U.S. Army on the island of Adak in the Aleutian Island chain off Alaska from 1946-47. He married Dorothy Gray on Oct. 28, 1950.

He farmed and raised livestock, mostly cattle, all his life. He spent many years at the auction barn buying, selling and trading for himself and others.

He is survived by two sons, Jim (wife Nancy), of Shelbyville, Ky., and Donald (wife Arlene), of Atlantic; one daughter, Nancy, of West Des Moines; one brother, Galen (wife Linda), of Ames; four grandchildren, David (wife Cindi) McKay, of Lexington, Ky., Matt (wife Christy) McKay, of Richmond, Ky., Jake (wife Emily) Drennan, of Cedar Falls, and Angie (husband Matt) Kennedy, of Racine, Wis; and seven great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Matthew, Charissa, Joshua, Anna, Jared and Levi.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; and one sister, Roberta Paulson.
