THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, February 12, 2009.

Karina Lynn Slinger, 36, of Zimmerman, Minn., passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at her home. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at United Church of Christ Congregational in Ames. A celebration of Karina’s life will be at a later date in Minnesota.

Karina was born Dec. 24, 1972, in De Witt, to William “Bill” and Sharron (Arnstedt) Slinger. She spent most of her childhood in Iowa, living much of the time in Nevada, until her sophomore year of high school when her family moved to California. She graduated from Rim of the World High School in 1991. She attended California Poly Technical College-Pomona, where she was enrolled in the equine science program. Her family returned to Iowa where she earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Iowa State University.

Her education and natural ability to work with horses earned her the position as breeding manager at Anoka Equine Veterinary Clinic. She was able to meet and develop numerous friendships through her love of horses and animals. She had four Arabian “children,” Mooney, Lucky, U Odysseyher (CC), and Just-A-Piece of Luck (JJ).

She was truly one of a kind. She was a caring, compassionate and strong woman. She knew what she wanted and never compromised her principles to achieve her goals. She enjoyed reading, especially Harry Potter and fantasy novels, cooking and decorating her home. She loved spending time with her family, especially her nephews and nieces, teaching them to ride horses, coloring or doing hair and nails. She was a fun loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend who will be greatly missed by many.

She is survived by her loving parents, Bill and Sharron; one sister, Gretta (Mark) Reischauer; one brother, Jayson (Ana Kaveh); nephews and nieces, Cameron, Hannah, Jacob, Cyrus and Roya; aunts and uncle, Julie Slinger, Barbara Decker and Scott (Trudy) Slinger; and cousins, Milo Decker, Brian Decker, Karl Decker, Mary Finestein, Patrick Toal and Eli Slinger. She is also survived by many loving friends.

She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Nelson, and by her grandparents.

Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home of Princeton, Minn., is in charge of arrangements.
