Sam Hamburger, 79, died Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Services will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, October 31st at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell with visitation at 6:30 – 8:00 PM Thursday, October 30th.

Sam was born July 28, 1929 at Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Charles and Theresa (Kime) Hamburger. He married Marsha Hanawalt on June 2, 1979 in Des Moines, Iowa. He farmed for over 25 years and worked for Land O’Lakes Turkey Plant in Ellsworth, Iowa, retiring in 1989.

He was a veteran and served in the Navy and Air Force during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Sam was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed puzzles, fishing, wrestling and racing.

Survivors include his wife, Marsha of Maxwell, Iowa; a son: Gary McConnell of Maxwell; a stepson: Maurice Wilson of Maxwell; four daughters: Bonnie Beckel of Shariton, Arkansas; Carla Elliott of Maxwell, Iowa; Kathy of Iowa City, Iowa; Patty McConnell of Des Moines, Iowa; a step-daughter: Marie Carroll; 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; two sisters: Nancy Ryan of Madrid, Iowa and Margaret Stephenson of Keokuk, Iowa.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: George and Charles; two sisters: Darlene and Dorothy Hamburger.
