THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, January 28, 2009.
Nancy L. Pegram (nee Butler), 77, longtime resident of Western Springs, Ill., died peacefully Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital. Burial will be private. A memorial gathering will be at a later date.
Born in Ames, Pegram graduated from Iowa State University.
The Western Springs Historical Society has been the recipient of her love of history for the past 40 years. She served as a trustee, co-president and president of the society. She was also a member of the P.E.O. chapter and president and board member of the Allied Arts Club of La Grange.
She was the recipient of the Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award, an award given for promoting humanities by the Illinois Humanities Council, and was selected as Woman of the Year for Western Springs.
She is survived by her sisters, Elizabeth (Joseph) B. Vancisin, of Branford, Conn., and Mary Lou (Butler) Hines, of Ames; her nephew, Richard (Heidi) B. Vancisin, and her niece, Susan (Dr. Kenneth Miller) F. Vancisin, of Hamilton, Conn.; her grandnephews, Christopher and Dana Vancisin, and grandnieces, Rebecca and Joshua Miller; cousins, William (Ellie) Butler, Howard (Virginia) Butler, David (Martha) Butler, David Olsberg, and Ellen (Dr. Jeffery) Olsberg Klein; and a host of loving friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest W. Pegram; and her parents, professor Lee Wright Butler and Trula Freeman Butler.
