Deborah "Deb" Lynn Lande-Adams, age 53, died Friday, Jan. 9, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, surrounded by her family, after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer. A gathering of friends and family will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames. A celebration of Deb's life will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames.

Deb was born July 12, 1955, in Ames, the daughter of Glendora (Mann) Clark and Fred Lande. She graduated from Ames High School in 1973, Des Moines Area Community College in 1974 and Iowa State University in 1986. She married Steve Adams on June 18, 1988, in Ames. He preceded her in death in March 1997. Deb worked at the McFarland Clinic Lab in Ames for nearly 35 years, where she enjoyed sharing her professional knowledge with all those with whom she worked. She enjoyed traveling, walking, reading and going to movies, and she was comforted by her cats, Ashpot and Bibbs. She was a great peacemaker and caregiver to her family and friends. Her smile and laughter could fill a room. She was actively involved in the Collegiate United Methodist Church of Ames.

She is survived by her mother, Glendora Clark, of Ames; father and stepmother, Fred and Kay Lande, of Ames; sisters Denise Metheney and her partner, Susan Yeager, of Chariton, and Diane and Ralph Merrill of Smithfield, Utah; stepchildren Jared Adams, of San Francisco, Calif., and Emily Adams, of Des Moines; step-grandson Stephen Hastings of Des Moines; stepsister Kim Thornton, of St. Louis, Mo.; stepbrothers Greg Widener, of Ames, Alan Widener, of Ankeny, and Mike Widener, of Boone; nieces and nephews Andrew Wiemers, Katherine (Jeremiah) Stoneking, Ammon ( Erin) Wiemers, Sariah (Dan) Reed, Hannah (Jeremy) Zitting, Olivia (Jeffrey) Johnson, Justin Metheney Yeager, Heather (Kory) Pence, Amanda (Carlos) Gonzalez, Anthony Merrill and Jeremy Merrill; and 10 great-nieces and -nephews.

Memorials may be directed to the Collegiate United Methodist Church or the Bliss Cancer Center. Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family.
