Galen David Clouser, 65, of Ames, died Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral Services were held Monday, January 5, 2009 at the Gilbert Lutheran Church, Gilbert, Iowa. Burial followed at the Gilbert Cemetery.

Galen was born November 23, 1943 in Ames, the son of Henry and Ellen (Johnson) Clouser. He married Gloria (Pepper) Clouser on June 27, 1964. He lived his entire life in the Ames area, except for two years from 1966-1968, when he served in the U.S. Army at Fort Rucker, Alabama.

Galen's lifelong passion was woodworking. He and a partner opened Ames Woodworking in 1977. He launched G.C. Woodworking in 1987, which he ran with his wife and son, Greg Clouser. He was proud to have his work displayed in many local businesses and homes.

Galen enjoyed traveling with family and friends, especially to tropical locales. He also enjoyed fishing, reading mystery novels, playing Texas Hold 'Em poker, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was a member of the American Legion, Post 37, Architectural Woodworkers, Institute, AWI Iowa/Nebraska, and Master Builders of Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria, of Ames; one son, Greg Clouser, and his son Adam, of Nevada; one daughter, Stacey (Jeff) Weiss and their children, Noah, Evan, Bodie, and Piper, of Loveland, CO; one sister, Elsie Grove, of Denver, CO; one brother, Gary Clouser, of Ames; mother-in-law and father-in-law, LaVonne and Richard Bark, of Ames; and many nieces and nephews.

Galen was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Christina, his parents, brother, Steven, sister, Helen May, brother-in-law, Marty Pepper and sisters-in-law, Julie Clouser and Danise Paulson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service assisted the family with arrangements.
