THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, January 6, 2009.
March 14, 1920-Jan. 4, 2009
Arlette Rouse, 88, passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, at the Green Hills Health Care Center in Ames. A memorial and celebration service in her honor will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley. Burial will take place at a later date in Olivia, Minn.
Arlette was born March 14, 1920, on a farm near Howard, S.D., to Ed and Laura (Jacobsen) Hansen. In 1934, they moved to a farm near Bird Island, Minn., where she graduated from high school and completed normal training to teach in country schools until she married Wayne Rouse on Dec. 22, 1941. They farmed north of Olivia, Minn., for many years. Following retirement, they moved to Kissimmee, Fla., in 1987. Arlette resided in Florida until May 2007 when she moved to Ballard Creek Assisted Living in Huxley to be near family.
She was a "natural born teacher." She enjoyed teaching in country schools, was a longtime Sunday school teacher and was determined her sons attend college. She was a dedicated farm wife, and in her retirement years enjoyed playing the organ, playing a game of "Rummikub" with friends and family, and delivering Meals on Wheels in the Good Samaritan Retirement Village in Kissimmee, Fla.
Arlette was a loving mother and grandmother. Family that cherish her memory are her children, Gene (Marita) Rouse, of Huxley, and Glen (Peg) Rouse, of Sedalia, Colo.; and three grandchildren, Adam, Paul and Julie Rouse.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, and her parents, Ed and Laura Hansen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Ballard Community Dollars for Scholars program or Fjeldberg Lutheran Church.
Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care of Ames is assisting the family with the arrangements.
