THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, January 3, 2008.

Jeffrey Michael Young, 34, of St. Charles, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at his home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at St. Charles Parish Church, with Pastor Sandy Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Charles Cemetery.

Visitation will open at noon Sunday, Jan. 4, at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola. The family will be present from 3 to 5 p.m.

Jeffrey Michael Young was born Sept. 25, 1974, in Des Moines, the son of Thomas Gene Young and Deborah Kae Flygstad Young Berggren. Jeff graduated from Interstate 35 High School in 1993. He married Lesa Hope Austin on Oct. 1, 1994, in St. Charles, and two daughters blessed this union. They made their home in St. Charles. Jeff had worked for AgLeader as an engineering technician for the past 11 years. He attended the St. Charles Parish Church and was a member of Truro United Methodist Church as a youth.

Jeff was a loving father, husband, son and friend. Jeff never did anything halfway and was always full of life and passionate about whatever he did. He loved basketball and had been a coach for the youth basketball program at Interstate 35 for the past 10 years. He was an avid follower of his daughters' gymnastics program. He also enjoyed fishing, poker and the Hawkeyes. He especially liked operating the farm equipment at his mother and stepfather's farm. The Easter egg hunts, Fourth of July fireworks with family and friends and the evenings he spent around the firepit were also great times to him.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Lesa Young, and daughters, Emily Young and Allyson Young, of St. Charles; father, Tom (Judy) Young, of St. Charles; mother, Deborah (Bruce) Berggren, of Stanhope; sisters, Holly Young, of St. Charles, and Heather (Micah) Abel, of Ames; in-laws, Bill and Robyn Austin, of St. Charles; sister-in-law, Julie (Travis) Egli, of St. Charles; grandparents, Orlyn (Lois) Flygstad, of Stanhope, and Helen Young, of St. Charles; aunts and uncles, Marge Ocker, of Ellsworth, Steve (LaVonne) Flygstad, of Ellsworth, Kathy (Clarence) Schlief, of LeHigh, Oney (Harold) Kalahar, of Dayton, and Verval (John) Bjork, of Poway, Calif.; 10 nieces and nephews; many cousins; and other relatives and many friends.

Jeff was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Ione Young; step-grandparents, Alton and Harriett Berggren; step-grandfather, Milton Young; and grandparents-in-law, Jerry and Carolyn Austin.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family for a fitting memorial to be decided at a later date.
