THE NEVADA JOURNAL, Nevada, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, December 24, 2008.

M. Robert (Bob) Dawson, 82, of Nevada, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. Memorial Services were held Saturday, December 20th at 11:00 AM at the Christian Church - Disciple of Christ in Nevada.

Bob was born in Aurelia, Iowa on December 4, 1926, the son of Leland and Margaret (Froning) Dawson. He lived near Cherokee until he was seven years old, then he moved to Story City and next to Gilbert. He attended Wentworth Military Academy, the University of Nebraska and AIB. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He married Mary Lasell in Des Moines, IA on July 13, 1947.

Bob owned and managed grain elevators in Gilbert and Nevada. He retired in December 1989 and worked as a Park Aid for the Story County Conservation Board. Bob was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church in Nevada. An Eagle Scout himself, Bob was a Scout Leader of Nevada Troup 129. He was a charter member of the Gilbert Lions Club and also a member of the American Legion, Toastmasters, Rotary, CPI, the Masonic Lodge, the Don Ce Sar Dance Club and the Za Ga Zig Shrine. He was a private pilot, and he loved the outdoors, fishing, home brewing and reading. Always challenging himself, he embraced email and the tools of the Internet.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mary of Nevada; three sons: M. Robert "Bob" II (Jane ) Dawson of Nevada; Michael ( Diane) Dawson of Nevada; Richard (Linda) Dawson of Maxwell; and a daughter, Patricia (Gene) Hammond of Brandon, SD; four grandchildren: Josh Dawson, Lindsey Dawson, William Dawson and Haley Hammond and a great granddaughter, Edith Dawson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Margo.

Memorials may be given to the Bob Dawson Memorial Fund.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory handled the arrangements.
