June Calhoun, 90, of Ames, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008. Services are pending with Stevens Memorial Chapel.

June Thayer Calhoun, 90, of Ames, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames, with the Rev. Scott Grotewold officiating.
June Thayer Calhoun was born June 2, 1918, in Howard County, the daughter of Carl Henry and Mary Evans Thayer. She graduated from Cresco High School and Iowa State Teachers College, then taught first grade in Marble Rock, La Porte City, Eldora, Charles City, Waterloo, Ames and Roland Story. She later earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa.
In 1950, she married Charles Raymond Calhoun. Since that time, they lived in Ames, where Charles had a nursery business and golf course consulting practice. Mrs. Calhoun was active in Collegiate United Methodist Church and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary (Paul) Neese, of Crown Point, Ind.; three sons, Bruce (Liz) and Neil (Suzanne), of Ames, and Craig (Lori), of Windsor Heights; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to Collegiate United Methodist Church (Children's Media), Ames Public Library (Youth Services) or Israel Family Hospice House.
Stevens Memorial Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
