THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, December 2, 2008.

Aug. 27, 1913-Nov. 30, 2008

Helen B. Severseike, 95, of Story City, passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at Mercy Capitol Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will follow the service in Story City Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.

Helen was born Aug. 27, 1913, in Story City, to Lars and Anna (Hougland) Tesdall. Helen and Herman Severseike were married Jan. 13, 1939, in Des Moines. They lived most of their loving years together on a farm in rural Radcliffe, until moving to Story City in 1994. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in rural Radcliffe. She had lived the last eight months at The Village at Legacy Pointe in Waukee to be near her daughter. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She treasured her family and her friendships. Most of all, she was steadfast in her love of the Lord.

She was cherished and is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, DeAnn and Gary Swenson, of West Des Moines, and their children, Jeff and Meghan Swenson, of Boston, and their daughter, Ella Rose Swenson, Shannan Swenson and her fiance, Matt Tarshis, of Chicago, and Greg Swenson, of Minneapolis. She also is survived by her daughter-in-law, Diane Severseike and her children, Natalie Krzyzan and Rochelle Underwood, all of Chicago. Also surviving is her sister, Hazel Lybarger, of Story City; two brothers, Abel Tesdall, of Jewell, and Harris Tesdall, of Ames; and many nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Herman, on March 28, 1996; one son, Gary Severseike; and nine brothers and sisters.

Her family will always remember her sparkling blue eyes and feisty demeanor that never failed to make them smile.

A memorial has been established at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Radcliffe.
