Richard Frandson, 84, of Story City, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services are pending with Soderstrum Funeral Home.

Richard H. Frandson, 84, of Story City, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at Grace United Methodist Church in Story City. Burial will follow in the Story City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.

Richard Hart Frandson was born Dec. 1, 1923, near Humeston, to Otto and Shirley (Hart) Vaughn. At the age of 10, he came to Story City and made his home with his uncle and aunt, Albert and Hallie Hart Frandson. He was a graduate of Story City High School with the class of 1942. He was engaged in farming all of his adult life except for time spent in the United States Army in Alaska. In 1959, he married Shirley Travase, of Story City. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Sons of Norway, and served on the ASCS Board and Farm Bureau Board. He very much enjoyed visiting, going on the Great Iowa Tractor Ride for several years, and attending the Owl Country Club in years past.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley; one son, David Frandson and his wife, Cathy, of Ankeny; one daughter, Kris Ann Frandson, of Bartlett, Ill.; one grandson Trent Frandson, of Ankeny; one brother, Carroll Vaughn and wife, Arlene, of Kellogg; one sister, Marilyn Moore, of Corydon; and one sister-in-law, Thelma Vaughn, of Boone.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Glenys Vaughn; and two brothers, Gene Vaughn and Max Vaughn.
