Funeral Rites For J. Stokka To Be Friday

Funeral services for John Jacob Stokka, 79, 517 Ninth street, a resident of Ames for 55 years, will be held at 2 p. m. Friday from the Lutheran church, with the Rev. Amos W. Stolen in charge. Burial will be in the Ames cemetery.

Mr. Stokka died at 10:40 p. m. Tuesday at the Mary Greeley hospital, following an operation.

He was born in Norway May 17, 1856. After living at Roland for a number of years he moved to Ames in 1880, where he was employed at the freight office of the Chicago and North Western railroad for many years.

Surviving him are three sons, J. B. and Kenneth L., Ames, and Sherwood R., Chicago; three daughters, Mrs. Blanche Trottnow and Marjorie Stokka, Chicago, and Mrs. Nordica Beebe, Kalamazoo, Mich.; also four grandchildren. His wife died about four years ago.

John J. Stokka, son of Jacob and Bertha Stokka was born in Stavanger, Norway, May 17, 1856, the youngest of four children. He was educated in the schools of that city.

He came to the United States and settled in Roland. Iowa. Here he was united in marriage on April 5, 1892 to Martha Amelia Holland who preceded him in death. Six children live to mourn the loss of a loving father. They are: J. B. and Kenneth L. Stokka of Ames: Sherwood R. Stokka, Chicago: and Marjorie Stokka of New York City, N. Y.; Blanche Trottnow. Villa Park. Ill.; and Nordica Beebe, Kalaraazoo, Mich. He is survived by one brother now living in Norway. He also leaves four grandchildren: Myrvin and DuWayne Stokka of Ames; Florence and Elaine Trottnow of Villa Park, Ill.

Mr. Stokka was engaged in the mercantile business in Roland and in 1897 was appointed postmaster, in which office he served for 10 years.

In 1916 the family moved to Ames and he was employed in the freight office of the Chicago and Northwestern railroad.

Mr. Stokka passed away at the Mary Greeley hospital Dec. 17. at the age of 78 years and 7 months. Funeral services were held at the Ames Lutheran church at 2 p. m. Friday with the Rev. Amos Stolen officiating. Interment was in the Ames cemetery.
