SLATER PIONEER DIES IN DES MOINES WED.

SLATER — Mrs. Mary Hovick, pioneer resident of Slater, died following a heart attack Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ogle, in Des Moines. She was 84 years old, and death was unexpected as she had been in apparent good health until the fatal attack.

Born in Lisbon, Ill., in 1851, Mrs. Hovick moved to Iowa when a young girl and had resided in Slater more than 20 years. She went to Des Moines two years ago to make her home with her daughter.

Surviving are the daughter with whom she resided, another daughter, Mrs. Harry Heath of Des Moines; two sons, Harry of Roland and Arthur of Jewell; and one sister, Mrs. Nora Olson of Slater.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Bethlehem church here at 2 p. m. Sunday with the Rev. E. R. Rorem in charge. Burial will be in the Bethlehem cemetery.
