Lew Berhow, 75, Dies in Huxley; Rites Thursday

HUXLEY - Funeral services for Lew Berhow, 75, who died at his home here Sunday evening, will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday from the Fjeldberg Lutheran church, with the Rev. J. N. Anderson in charge.

Mr. Berhow had been in ill health for some time and had been bedfast the past six weeks.

He was born in Madrid Sept. 3, 1860. He moved with his parents to Cambridge while a lad, later moving to White Oak. After living here for two years, during which time he was married, he moved to Emmet county for two years. He then returned to Story county, and lived near and in Huxley for 48 years. He was active in the affairs of the Fjeldberg church and was known as an auctioneer for many years.

On Dec. 20, 1933 Mr. and Mrs. Berhow celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a full program at the church.

He is survived by his wife; six sons, Fred, Ames; Clarence, Kelley; Seward, Walter, Orland and Sophus, Huxley, and four daughters, Mrs. J. C. Ersland, Slater; Florence, Mason City; Mrs. John Olson and Irene, Huxley. Also one brother, Tom Kanawha; and two sisters, Mrs. Elsa Fatland, Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Back Toresdahl, Huxley.

Interment will be in the Fjeldberg cemetery.

LEWIS BERHOW RITES ARE HELD AT HUXLEY

HUXLEY—Funeral services for Lewis Berhow 75, who died Dec. 8 at his home here, were held Thursday from the Fjeldberg Lutheran church with Dr. J. N. Andersen in charge.

At short services at the home preceding the church services, Dr. Anderson gave a short sermon and Mrs. Roy Elliott sang.

Services at the church included hymns by the choir, a sermon by Dr. Anderson and selections by Lowell Berhow and Mrs. Lars Kloster, the latter of Des Moines. Pall bearers were Fred Sophus, Walter Orland, Seward and Clarence Berhow. Interment was in the Fjeldberg cemetery.

Lewis Berhow was born Sept 9, 1860 in Madrid, the son of Ole and Bertha Berhow. He was married Dec. 20, 1883 to Esther Helland and they settled in this community, where they since lived, spending 30 years on a farm northeast of town and then moving into town about three and a half years ago.
