THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, October 8, 2008.

Theroy "Ted" Hovick, 80, of Story City died September 30, 2008 at Mary Greeley Medical Center of a massive heart attack. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City with the Rev. Stephen Anenson officiating. Burial was in the Story City Cemetery. Visitation was held after 4 p.m. Thursday at the church with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m.

Ted was born October 17, 1927 near Roland to Arthur and Tena (Larson) Hovick. He was active in sports and graduated from Randall High School. He married Norma Jeanne Caruth in 1947. To this union, three sons were born, Larry, Jim and Claude. They farmed in the Hamilton and Story County area. Jeanne passed away in July 1957.

Ted married Lois Ann (Fjelland) Gregg in 1959. He gained three stepchildren, Dianna, Clayton and Janet. Ted and Lois raised their family in Story City. For the last 17 years, they have enjoyed camping and wintering in Mission, Texas.

Ted worked in various sales jobs including insurance and commercial lighting. He, was active in the Iowa Greyhound Association. Ted enjoyed sports, participating in basketball, men's softball and was an avid bowler. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports and rooting on the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Ted is survived by his wife Lois Ann, three sons, Larry (Diane) of Branson, Jim of Branson, Claude (Jane) of Roland; three stepchildren, Dianna (Dwight) Muench of Odgen, Clayton (Julie) Gregg of Ames, Janet (Jerry) Handsaker of Roland; brother, Raymond; sister, Alvina Olson; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Hovick and Ruth Hovick; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, grandson Christopher Hovick, sister Olive, two sisters, both named Arlene, brothers, John, Milo, Harold and Richard.

Soderstrum Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
