THE AMES TRIBUME, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Sunday, September 28, 2008.

Herb Keigley passed away on Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at the Boone County Hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at Napier United Methodist Church. Visitation will be on Monday evening where friends may call after 3 p.m. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid.

Herbert Theodore Keigley was born Sept. 19, 1925, to Bert L. and Ethel Carpenter Keigley on the family farm in rural Boone County.

At age 5, he was run over by a full wagon of corn during harvest, breaking his back. The next two years were spent at University Hospital in Iowa City, where a leg bone was fused to his back bone.

He attended school at Napier Consolidated School, graduating in 1945.

He went on to become a farmer and mechanic. Herb married Beverly Abrahamson on Sept. 17, 1952, in Luther, Iowa. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing and singing country western music, and traveling throughout his life to most of the 50 states, Canada and Mexico.

He overcame many medical problems, enjoying a full life that included performing at area nursing homes until suffering a stroke in August 2005. He was a resident of the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bev, his daughter, Ann, son, John (Karla) Keigley, and two grandsons, Kyle and Jason.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Frances.

Iles Funeral Homes, Sundberg/Kirkpatrick Chapel in Madrid is in charge of arrangements.
