SYLVESTER C. RUSH FUNERAL WEDNESDAY

Funeral services for Sylvester Colburn Rush, 91, who died of old age and complications at the home of his daughter, Gladys Gouwens, 109 Hyland avenue, Ames, Sunday afternoon about 4 o'clock, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:15 at the Adams chapel. Burial will be in the Highland cemetery at Colfax.

Mr. Rush was born in Limestone, W. Va., on November 10, 1838, and has been a resident of Ames for the past 21 years. He is a retired carpenter and merchant. His wife died at Colfax, February 18, 1905, and is also buried in the Highyand cemetery at Colfax.

Mr. ush is survived by two sons in addition to the daughter with whom he has been making his home. They are: H. S. Rush of Fargo, N. D., and I. L. Rush of Evanston, Ill. A brother, S. A. Rush of Ames, and a sister, Mrs. L. Peterson of Ames, also survive.

SYLVESTER COLBURN RUSH

Sylvester Colburu Rush, son of Willis and Mary Boden Rush, was born November 10, 1838 at Limestone, Marshall County, West Virginia. When about one year old he moved with his parents to a farm home near McConnellsville, Morgan County, Ohio where he grew to young manhood. For a time he attended Sharon College and taught school. During the Civil War the family came by wagon to a farm near Ainsworth, Washington County, Iowa. During a considerable number of years be worked as a bridge carpenter, as the railroads were extended across the middle west. He worked on the Union Pacific extending across Nebraska in 1860 and later for the Rock Island in Iowa and for what is now the Great Western in Minnesota.

He was married November 14, 1883 at New Concord, Ohio, to Jane Scott Speer, who died at Colfax, Iowa, February 18. 1895. Their three children are all living Harry S., of Fargo, North Dakota. Mary Gladys, wife of Professor Cornelelius Gouwens of Ames, and Irl L., of Evanston, Illinois. After his marriage, Mr. Rush was engaged as a grain, lumber and hardware merchant and lived at various times in Fairfleid, Collins. Ainsworth, Arion and Colfax, Iowa, After the death of his wife. Mr. Rush moved to Ames in the fall of 1909, where his daughter was attending college and he has resided here continuously since then. All of his children are graduates of Iowa State College. During the past five months Mr. Rush has been confined to his bed at 109 North Hyland Avenue, and passed quietly away at four P. M., Easter Sunday at the age of 91 years, 5 months, and 10 days. Burial was at Colfax, beside his wife, on Wednesday. Beside his children he is survived by two grandchildren, Jane and Clayton Rush of Fargo, N. D.. one brother, S. A. Rush, and one sister Mrs. Ella Patterson, both of Ames and other relatives.
