Olive Gauley, 97, of Ames, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at Green Hills Health Care Center in Ames. Arrangements are pending with Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Olive Gauley, 97, of Ames, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at Green Hills Health Care Center. A memorial service will be at 10 am Tuesday, Sept. 16, in Helser Chapel at Collegiate Presbyterian Church, in Ames. Inurnment will be in Jefferson Cemetery.
Visitation will precede the service from 9 to 10 a.m. in the Sarah Barlowe Lounge at the church.
Olive was born Oct. 24, 1910, in Paton, to Walter and Pearl (Mansfield) Bauer. After finishing school, she moved to Jefferson. In 1929, she joined the Downes Fashion Shop in ladies' ready to wear. She became a buyer and visited all the important markets.
In 1953, she purchased the Menzer Fashion Shop in Atlantic, which she operated as Olive's Inc. In 1960, she quit management in Olive's in Atlantic and moved to Ames to open Olive's of Ames Inc., on Sept. 1, 1960. She became well known as a fashion buyer and was very selective in her buying for 27 years.
She married Robert B. Gauley July 1, 1961, in Des Moines. She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Mary Greeley Medical Center Auxiliary, Collegiate Presbyterian Church, Book and Basket Club and Ames Golf and Country Club. She enjoyed golf and bridge.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Gauley; one sister; and six brothers.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mary Greeley Medical Center Auxiliary or Collegiate Presbyterian Church.
Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
