David John Strodtman, 54, died peacefully Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at Israel Family Hospice House after battling cancer of the esophagus and lungs. The family will greet friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, in the Community Room at Wessex Apartment Complex, 3022 Wessex Drive (south on University Boulevard), in Ames.
Dave was born June 3, 1954, in Emmetsburg, and moved with his family to Ames in 1960. He was active in Boy Scouts, earning the Eagle Scout Award. He also was an accomplished pianist, played tenor saxophone and was drum major for Ames High School. While attending Iowa State University, he also worked as an orderly at Mary Greeley Medical Center. After graduating with a bachelor's degree, he moved to Denver, Colo., where he lived for 25 years, working as a senior systems computer analyst. In 2003, he returned to Ames and worked as a Digimaster operator for Sigler Printing and Publishing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack; and is survived by his mother, Jeanine; one brother, Dan (Karen); two nephews, Justin and Tyler; one niece, Stacy (Jason) Burke, and one grand-niece, Adison Burke.
He loved his cats and, as such, memorials may be made to the Ames Animal Shelter or Israel Family Hospice House.
