Steve Lettow, 66, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at his home near Buckeye. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Radcliffe. Burial will be in Buckeye Cemetery near Buckeye.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Radcliffe.
Memorials may be directed to Lutheran World Relief, PO Box 17061, Baltimore, Md. 21298-9832.

Steven Elmer Lettow was born Oct. 28, 1941, to Elmer John and Mabel (Pickering) Lettow. He grew up on the family farm, five miles northwest of Buckeye. He attended Buckeye Consolidated School and graduated from Radcliffe Community High School in 1959.
After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, attached to the 1st Marine Division. Following his service to his country, he began farming in the Buckeye area and continued his passion for the next 48 years until his untimely death.
He married Ona Mae Danielson, of Jewell, on July 17, 1966. To this union, Steve and Ona Mae were blessed with two children, Martin and Larena. Martin lives in Boulder, Colo., is married to Catherine Hilpipre and they have three children, Gabriella, Grace and Julian. Larena lives in New York City, is married to Brian Rolli and they have two children, Carter and Hudson.
He served on the Buckeye Co-Op elevator board, the Buckeye Cemetery board as a trustee, volunteered on Memorial Day for the firing squad for the Buckeye V.F.W., and for years was an ASCS township committeeman measuring government ground during various farm programs. He was very active in his church, where he was a regular adult Sunday school participant, served the church council as vice president and trustee, and was devoted to furthering his understanding of the Word through Bible study and worship.
He loved to travel with his family throughout the country and was an avid reader of history, economics and politics. He also was active in many Democratic political campaigns, once even hosting a presidential candidate on his farm during the Iowa caucuses. He was a proud farm activist during the '80s farm crisis and never compromised his values as an outspoken advocate for the family farm, believing in parity economics for agriculture and that you should live your life defending the defenseless.
In the last five years, he realized a lifelong dream of breeding and raising Morgan horses, known for their gentle nature and beauty. Truly, Lady, Silver, Lilly and Frisky all will miss his friendship and love. He served in many capacities and stood for many causes but his greatest loves were his wife, children, grandchildren and his Lettow Family Farm.
In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, he is survived by four sisters, Jane (Lowell) Wykle, Jeanette Krause, Joan (Ron) Tystahl and Elizabeth (Don) Rubendall; and one brother, Mark (Linda) Lettow, along with many nieces and nephews, cousins, and aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Otto and Anna (Runge) Lettow and Winfred and Cecil (Ballard) Pickering; his parents, Elmer and Mabel Lettow; one brother-in-law, Dennis Krause; and one nephew, Justin "J.D." Krause.
