Edna Hegland, 88, of Story City, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Edna was born March 24, 1920, in Hamilton County, to Harm and Grace (Ubben) Denekas. She married Belmont Hegland on Aug. 19, 1940. He died Nov. 23, 1997. She and Belmont farmed near Radcliffe and Stanhope before moving to Story City in 1984. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

She is survived by one sister-in-law, Evelyn Denekas, of Jewell; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers, Walter, Robert, Martin, Leo and an infant brother; and six sisters, Tillie Olsen, Grace Coffman, Dena Fryburger, Jennie Swenson, Edith Jacobson and Marie Hetland.

Memorials may be made to Israel Family Hospice House or Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Soderstrum Funeral Home of Story City is in charge of arrangements.
