Warren Frahm, 81, of Ames, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at Northcrest Healthcare Center. Arrangements are pending with Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Warren J. Frahm, 81, of Ames, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at Northcrest Health Care Center under hospice care. Viewing will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames, with Warren present, but not the family. Visitation with the family will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, in the social hall of Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames. Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, in Ames Municipal Cemetery, followed by the memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at Collegiate Presbyterian Church.

Warren Joseph Frahm was born May 29, 1927, on a farm near Reinbeck, to Herman F. and Anna (Raum) Frahm. He attended Grant No. 9 rural school and graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1945. Earning his way by firing the furnaces at Tarkio College, Mo., he graduated in 1952 with a degree in applied music. He graduated from Pittsburgh-Xenia Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1955, and was ordained to the Gospel Ministry by Keokuk Presbytery, Synod of Iowa, on Dec. 7, 1955.

He married Mary Dyer, of Indianola, June 4, 1957, in Washington. To this union four children were born, Janis, David, Susan and Daniel.

He served as a student assistant during seminary at the Ken Mawr United Presbyterian Church, McKees Rocks, Pa., and then served pastorates in Iowa: United Presbyterian Church in Morning Sun, Immanuel Presbyterian in Waterloo, Northminster Presbyterian in Ames and McCallsburg Presbyterian as Stated Supply following retirement. He and Mary were administrators of the Presbyterian Camp on Okoboji from 1989 through the summer season of 1993.

He received a doctor of ministry degree from McCormick Seminary in Chicago in 1982, and honorary degrees of doctor of divinity and doctor of humane letters from Tarkio College as well as a lifetime Distinguished Service Certificate from Tarkio.

Always an active member of Presbytery, he served on numerous committees and was moderator of North Central Iowa Presbytery in 1970. In Ames, he was a member of Golden K Kiwanis and organized the Golden K Singers. He was a member of River Valley Credit Union Board, Northcrest Residents' Council, and served on boards of various agencies in communities where they lived, including mental health boards in both Black Hawk and Story counties.

He enjoyed working on small engines, music, singing, playing the clarinet, working on the farm, family gatherings and jam sessions.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; three children, Janis, of Austin, Texas, Susan (David) Tucker, of Ames, and Dan (Darci), of Los Angeles; one daughter-in-law, Shari Frahm, of Cambridge; seven grandchildren, Amanda and Lance Frahm, Ryan and Lindsey Tucker, Gabriel, Eliana and Sofia Frahm; one great-grandchild, Tyson Brueklander; one brother, Ross (Patricia) Frahm, of Osceola; one sister-in-law, Berniece Frahm, of Reinbeck; and many other relatives and a host of friends.

He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Lawrence; and one son, David.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his honor to the Presbyterian Camp on Okoboji, Collegiate Presbyterian Church, Joining Hearts and Hands Mission, Northminster Presbyterian Church or to your favorite charity.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
