David Ray Staniforth, of Ames, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. In keeping with David's wishes, a private service will be held.
Dave was born Aug. 2, 1950, in Ames, the son of David and Earla Staniforth. A 1968 Ames High graduate, he graduated from Colorado State University with a bachelor's degree in business in 1972. For the next five years, Dave worked for Shell Company, living in Rochester, Minn.
He returned to school and in 1982 received a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Minnesota. He returned to Ames and never left. He read avidly and loved the great outdoors. Perhaps his happiest times were spent camping in the Canadian wilderness.
He is survived by his sister, Margy (Dick) Denning, of Naperville, Ill., and their three children, Ann (Marc) Druce-Hoffman, of Naperville, Ill., Lynne (Mark) Batts, of Elburn, Ill., and Erin (Rene) Brignac, of Naperville, Ill.; and brother, Art (Jayne), of Ames, and their three children, Nate (Katharine), of Iowa City, Ben, of Ames, and Kimberly, of Ames.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David (1984) and Earla (2004) Staniforth.
Memorials may be given to the Food at First program at First United Methodist Church, 516 Kellogg Ave., Ames 50010.
