S. C. Stratton Dies Here Thursday p. m.

S. C. Stratton, 86, died about 2:30 p. m. Thursday at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. R. L. Downey, 114 Sumner avenue. Mr. Stratton had been in failing health since November. Funeral services will be held from the Methodist church at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Burial will be in the Ames cemetery.

Mr. Stratton has been a resident of Ames since 1873, having come to Iowa in 1854. He is survived by five children, W. G. Straton of Nevada, H. A. Stratton of Carroll, M. N. Stratton of Portland, Ore., Mrs. J. V. Ball of Ames and Mrs. I. A. Tenland of New Market. He leaves also 11 grandchildren.

S. C. STRATTON RITES TO BE HELD SUNDAY

Funeral services for S. C. Stratton, 86, who died Thursday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ralph L. Downey, 114 Summer avenue, will be held at the First Methodist church here Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Burial will be in the Ames cemetery.

Mr. Stratton was one of the real pioneers of Story county, having spent 76 years as a resident. Mr. Stratton was born Feb. 1, 1844. at Richmond, Ind., and, came to Iowa with his parents when he was 10 years of age. On Jan. 25, 1865 he was married to Miss Mary Ann Newkirk. The couple lived on a farm until October 1873 when they moved to Ames. After the death of his wife Mr. Stratton made his home with his daughter here.

Despite his age, Mr. Stratton enjoyed good health until last November when he became ill while visiting at the home of his son W. F. Stratton in Nevada.

Nine children were borm to Mr. and Mrs. Stratton. One died in infancy, the eldest daughter, Mrs. Luella Golden died in California, and the second daughter, Mrs. Etta Hemstock died at her home in Nevada a few. years ago.

Surviving children include: W. F. Stratton of Nevada, M. N. Stratton of Portland, Ore.; Simon Stratton of the west coast; Mrs. James Ball of North Grant; Henry A. Stratton of Carroll, Mrs. Hattie Pendleton of New Market, and Mrs. Downey of Ames. Many grandchildren and great grandchildren survive.
